How I Started Enjoying Self-Development

Image
I'm sure that most people have thought about self-development at least a few times in their life, and I'm no different. I think that I started enjoying self-development very naturally, I didn't even really know that it was a thing, but somehow I ended up reading a book about how to be kinder and treat people better, and that feeling that I was doing something to better myself felt really good. After that I  I googled what self-development books were about and opened up a whole new world for me. My relationship with self development had many ups and downs. I think that because I'm a perfectionist, somethimes I would take the book's teachings way to seriously and beat myself up if I couldn't do everything as the book said. I'm sure that many people who enjoy self-development might have gone through this stage as well. As time went by, I found my way out of this after I read the book "The Compound Effet" (which is another self-development ...

5 Best Quotes From "The Compound Effect"

Image
This is an amazing book that I read this year and probably the one that changed my mindset the most. It talks about The Compound Effect, which reffers to how the small things we do constantly (aka habits) add up in a very big way. One of the things that impacted me the most is the fact that The Compound Effect is always working, either on your favour or against you, so in one way or another it is very much present in our life and  I believe everyone should get their hands on this book, truly life-changing. I was one of these people that was always thinking "I'm not going to do this today because it's not going to change anything" and now I realize how much this was holding me back. We only have the present moment so if you have this kind of mindset, you're never actually going to do anything (and The Compound Effect will be working against you),  but if you know that everything you do matters, and that small acts will add up as time goes, you'll always have ...

Deep Meaningful Conversations

Image
"True happiness arises, in the first place, from the enjoyment of one's self, and in the next, from the friendship and conversation of a few select companions."  - Joseph Addison Today I'm going to talk about deep meaningful conversations. I'm not sure if this is the same for everyone, but as a introvert I really enjoy having those types of conversation that you feel you could have for days on end, never getting tired of it. I know this seems contraditory, since I'm an introvert, but these conversations are special to me. They are special because they are between 2 people and you feel like you can say anything, without a hint of judgement. These are the kind of conversations in which you discuss the meaning of life, why whales can't walk (aka you can talk about absolutely anything), try to undersand music lyrics and get to the deep stuff you have going on on your life. Lately I've been missing these conversations a lot. There aren't many ...

Introducing

Hey guys, I'm not sure if anyone is ever going to read any of the stuff I'm writting, but I've been really feeling like creating a blog lately so here I am. I'm 19 years old and I like pretty much everything. I enjoy books, beauty, makeup, self-development, playing the guitar, singing, cooking and many other things I'm going to share here. When I was younger I was very passionate about writting. I would write songs, poetry, journals and I would even try to write books (even though none of then ended up with more than 50 pages). As the years went by I kind of stopped writing because I dind't have time and I would rather hang out with  friends. Right now I don't really have a lot of time either (I'm in college and working part-time), but I feel like I need to connect with my creative side again. If you're reading this (chances are it's just me here), thanks for being here and I hope you enjoy this random blog. -Alva
